What is Sapphire Stone and History of Sapphire Stone

Sapphire is the most precious and valuable blue colored gemstone and it is most desirable gemstone due to its excellent features like color quality, hardness, and luster etc. It refers to the blue variety of the mineral Corundum without any color prefix. The blue color of Sapphire is known as the most valuable color, also known as Kashmir Sapphire or Cornflower Blue Sapphire. An exotic type of sapphire, also known as Color Changing Sapphire, displays a different color depending on its lightning. The color-changing sapphire is blue, but in artificial light, it is violet. We generally see the yellow and pink sapphire used in jewelry and are most popular. Green Sapphire is known as “Oriental Emerald”.  But these names are not used now, as the sapphire once called as “Oriental Sapphire” is now called as “Green Sapphire”.  Sapphire is generally a tough and durable gem and the only one natural gemstone harder than Sapphire is Diamond. It was first synthesized in 1902. The process of creating synthetic Sapphire is known as the Vemeuil process. IT is not easy to distinguish between the natural and synthetic Sapphire. The Star Sapphire is known exists in six ray stars, though twelve-ray stars are also known.

Sapphires are considered as the second hardest mineral on the Mohs scale. These are the aluminum oxides, thus, can be easily found naturally or can be manufactured. They are considered in the non-red corundum category of minerals. It also possesses the health benefits for such ailments such as colic, rheumatism, and mental illness, etc. Sapphire is known as the stone of prosperity and capable of alleviating mental tension and confusion, it promotes the peace and serenity by restoring the inner equilibrium and stability. It is in the category of corundum, thus, it can be easily converted and transformed into different colors, shapes, and sizes.

It is used in the manufacturing processes due to its texture. Its durability makes it useable in the electrical manufacturing capacity. It is also used in the manufacturing of sandpaper, cutting tools, polishing compounds, etc. It has one wide use as well. i.e., an antidote to the poison.

The blue variety of Sapphire is extensively used in jewelry but the green and light blue Sapphires are less commonly used in jewelry. Generally, Sapphire is used in all types of jewelry varieties, including bracelets, necklaces, rings and earrings. The origin of a gemstone is very important and plays a significant role in determining the color of the stone, and its value as well.The most valuable sapphires are found in Kashmir, which is located between India and Pakistan, while the second most valuable sapphires come from Burma. Those from Sri Lanka rank third in value.

History of Sapphire:

It is believed that sapphire symbolizes the nobility, truth, sincerity and faithfulness. It has also been associated with royalty and romance. An association was reinforced in 1981, where Britain’s Prince Charles gave a blue sapphire as the engagement rings to the Lady Diana Spencer. It was believed in ancient Greece and Rome, that the blue sapphires protect the owners of the kings and queens from envy and harm. The clergy wore the blue sapphires to symbolize the Heaven during the Middle Ages. In many other times, people believed that these sapphires have the power to guard chastity, maintaining peace between the enemies, influencing spirits, and revealing the secrets of oracles. Sapphire has always been associated with the blue color in folklore, history art, and consumer awareness.

Padparadscha is known as a special orangy pink colored sapphire, which means “lotus flower” mostly in Sri Lanka. This Sapphire stone works in a direction so as to increase the strength and overall health of the owner, by removing all the sickness and nullifying the effects of poison. The Star Sapphire is considered as the highly expensive sapphire. The sapphire is known as the symbol of good fortune, virtue, wisdom and holiness.

It is known as the stone of protection and prophetic wisdom, considered as a wondrous crystal that has the ability to watch over the human destiny. It is considered to be strongest enough to promote the joy, faith, hope, and protection during the long journeys and acts as an antidote to poison as well. Wearing a sapphire always brings light and peace and maintains our body. The Sapphire can be of different colors, like, blue, purple, green, yellow, black or even colorless.
